I dedicated this page to a childhood memory that I and many others grew up with in Rockingham and Richmond County - Slim Mims, also known as Uncle Ugly. I have different emails from others concerning Slim in the Guests Memories section of my previous website, Rockingham Remembered. So I am adding this special page for Slim - with photos, memorabilia, and with videos of his many shows back in the 50s to this site.
Don Henderson of DonHenderson.com has recently took the time and money to convert a lot of the old tv shows that Slim made and put them on YouTube. Don has given me permission to add his videos to this website. So, I hope you enjoy the humor of Slim and his gang and the music from years ago - and I think Don for getting these converted to the internet for all to enjoy. I know I have and continue to enjoy them and the memories they bring back when I listen and watch.
I felt this page fit right in with my websites about all our memories of growing up in the 50s & 60s. My hopes are that you feel the same and will let Don know if you enjoy his videos of Slim Mims.
So, this page will be a little bit of everything. If you have something you would like to add, just email me and I will try to get it on.

The email below was received 051809 and I wanted to share it with you - with the permission of the sender. Slim Mims was adored by many.
I just decided to look online and see if I could find anything about Slim Mims. I didn't know what ever became of him. I have searched before, but never found anything until now.
I remember him from Carolina in the Morning, channel 6, Wilmington, North Carolina. He came to my hometown of
Bladenboro, NC to appear in the annual Christmas Parade. He walked into my
parents' business after the parade and spoke to me. I was just a young boy, and it was a special treat to me to meet a television personality. My mother told
him I played guitar a little, and he inquired as to whether or not I would be
interested in appearing on his television program. That was a long time ago. I don't recall all of the details of how it all came together, but I appeared on his show on January 1st, 1979, if I remember the date and year correctly.
I've often thought about him through the years, and wondered what ever happened to him. I'm sorry to learn he has passed away.
He was one of the funniest and nicest people I've ever met. I count it a privilege to have met him and to have appeared on his program.

My name is Ron Simmons. My deceased wife, Jackie Taylor Spires Simmons, sang on the TV program of Slim Mims with her first husband to be, Buddy Spires( Robbie Lee ) in the 1964,65 time frame.I believe he played piano. They are in the newspaper picture on your post. (at this link: http://www.rockinghamremembered.com/SlimMimsPhotos.html) She is sitting on the left, Patti Fay is on the right. Buddy is right of center. Patti Fay and Jackie recorded a song on 45 rpm called DREAM TIME on Roni' Records with backup by Slim Mims and his Dream Ranch Boys & Girls.

May 8, 2013 - David Bruce Mims, Slim's son, has given me permission to use these photos from his Facebook page for my website.
Charles Edward Mims was Slim's real name, born in Columbia, South Carolina. But country music fans came to know him as Slim Mims when he was just a small youngster.
