Coca-Cola bottler J.P. Gibbons lived in the Gibbons-Bagwell House at 316 Entwistle Street in Hamlet before erecting this more grandiose Classical Revival house about 1921 or 1922 (he sold his Entwistle Street house to the Bagwells in 1923).
