1984 Rockingham Advertisements

200 Years - 1784-1984 - Sixty-Six Days of Celebration of the founding of Rockingham - that's what was being celebrated in Rockingham, North Carolina that year. Many activities were had during this celebration in this "All-America City" of the 80s. They even buried a "time capsule" in Harrington Square to be opened on June 2, 2084. Kind of doubt any of us will be around then, but, then again, who can tell.

Rockingham produced a booklet entitled "200th Anniversary 1784-1984 Historical Book." In this book were details of all the activities plus many advertisements from the local businesses of that day. On this page I will display those advertisements for all of us to look back on and remember...people, places, times, wonderment and enjoyment. (Sidenote:) Howard Richardson provided the following info on the time capsule: "I just happen to remember that I was one of the three (3) people that built the "Time Capsule". It was built at Industrial Sheet Metal and Mechanical Corp. that was on the Airport Road, close to the airport. I believe it was in June or July that we built it.

Mr. Gary Fisher did the design work on it and I was the one that pumped the air out and inserted nitrogen, a gas to protect the items inside.

It is nice to know that I had a little something to do with a "Time Capsule" that will be seen in 100 years."
